Happy World Migratory Bird Day! The theme this year is Protecting Insects to Protect Birds. Insects are a vital protein-rich food for birds. Appreciate the insects. They are also important for the natural system as pollinators, scavengers, and predators.

Wow! My first experience with Northern Lights right here in SE WA! These were taken with my phone. At first, we didn't see much activity. After a bit, we could make out a few more light streaks and then it was like a dome was over us and light streaks were all around us. My friend was pointing me in all directions. It was so amazing. Heading out again tonight. Hoping to find a not-so-busy location.

In honor of Earth Day, this week I'll be increasing the donation percentage of images in my Giving Back Through Art Galleries. 

There are three galleries to check out to support wild horse freedom, marine mammal research, and sea otter protection and education. 

Donations from orders placed this week by Saturday, April 27, will be increased to 20% (regularly 15%).

I'm holding 2 photography workshops at the Othello Sandhill Crane Festival - Sunrise and Sunset. Join 1 or join both. 

In the morning, the waning moon will be setting as the sun rises and the cranes lift off for the fields near Othello. We'll be starting at the Reservoir and follow the cranes to the fields. 

In the afternoon, we'll start at the fields and follow the cranes back to their overnight roost at the Reservoir as the full moon rises as the sun sets. 

We'll work on camera settings, capturing behavior, and getting you in the best position for these unique images. 

Each workshop is about 3.5 hrs and includes transportation to/from the photography site from Othello.

This is the last day to make my Northern California Wildlife Photography Tour happen. I need secure spaces with the tour guides (those with the boat and kayaks and access to the seal pups). I know this is a super last-minute trip but time was dependent upon and limited to seal pup viewing times and the monarch butterfly wintering time frame. 

The dates are February 2 - 5, 2024.

This morning's waning crescent phase. It's so cool to see the moon's craters and mountains.  This is the precursor to Saturday's New Moon and Fire Ring Solar Eclipse. Its path will be from the Oregon coast starting about 9am and across the southwest to Texas. It should be visible from most locations but there'll be less ring the further away you are. Here in southeast WA we should still get 80-90% of the ring. I'm looking forward to seeing it on Saturday morning. **Make sure you get solar eclipse eyewear (your local hardware store should have them). You'll also need a special filter for your camera/phone**
