About This Service
Flower Photography for Travel and Hiking workshop and tour

The Master Gardener Demonstration Garden in Kennewick is an ideal location to practice floral photography techniques while we tour the various garden types.

We'll meet at their outdoor amphitheater where I'll briefly talk about camera settings and show examples of how those settings effect your image. Then we'll tour the gardens while I help guide you with your floral creations.

Bring your DSLR, Mirrorless, or Smartphone. A zoom lens under 200mm is good as well as a wide angle lens.

Location: Master Gardener Demonstration Garden (next to Mid-Columbia Library, Union Street, Kennewick)

Time: 6:30am - 9:30am

Cost: $125 per person (plus tax)

Max of 8 people

Dates: TBA

In this class, we'll meet at the Columbia Park East Duck Pond in Kennewick. There is a variety of species here to provide us with ample subjects to practice our camera settings and photography techniques. After about 3 hours in a "controlled" setting, we'll move down the street to Bateman Marina to apply your new skills while bird watching.

We'll focus on camera settings for DSLR/Mirrorless cameras. I suggest using a lens that zooms to at least 200mm.

About This Service
Northern California Wildlife Photography Tour

January/February 2025 (specific dates will be announced this fall)

This is a quick weekend photo tour that's packed with amazing wildlife. We'll meet in Santa Cruz, California, where I lived for several years while attending UCSC, and venture out to Año Nuevo State Park and Moss Landing to photograph wildlife.

Wildlife we'll see:

Elephant seals - adult males undulating their massive bodies along the sand, sub-adult males practicing their battling skills, females fending off the males, and the main attraction, elephant seal pups. Some will be newborns, others may be a little older and bigger.

Monarch Butterflies - Santa Cruz is one of their wintering homes in California.

Sea Otters - we'll see these adorable and beloved marine mammals at a safe but photographable distance by kayak and boat. Sea otters pup year round so there's always a chance to see a mom with her pup.

Other wildlife - harbor seals and aquatic birds are abundant around Moss Landing and will be a pleasant bonus.

Registration will open in the fall of 2024.

Space is limited to 10 photographers.

Not included:

Transportation to Santa Cruz. If you're flying, I suggest flying into San Jose (a 45 min drive) or San Francisco (1.5 hr drive along PCH). Once together, we'll travel together in a van to our wildlife locations. There's also the option to take Amtrak. From Pasco, you'd transfer in Portland & arrive in San Jose. Then you'd have the option to continue to Santa Cruz on their bus or rent a car.

Hotel. I will look into group rates at the Fairfield Inn in Santa Cruz. It's an easy walk to the Monarchs and restaurants. Breakfast is included at the hotel and they have a mini frig in the rooms if you want to pick up foods at the market. (Safeway and a natural foods store are a few blocks away.) You are welcome to stay any where you prefer but this will be our meeting and departure site.

Food. While there are many options in the area, I have a list of really good options, including gluten-free, for a quick lunch and casual dinners with an average price range of $10-$20. We can go as a group or on our own.

Photography Permit. This is required at Año Nuevo State Park and needs to be purchased individually. They are $100 and can be purchased HERE.

Kayak Birding and Photography Tour

USD $150

About This Service
*Coming Soon*

The Yakima Delta is a haven for wildlife, especially birds. Egrets and herons scout for food along the river bank while juvenile bald eagles practice their hunting skills from the tree tops. Forester's terns hover and dive as white pelicans cruise the calm waters, occasionally plunging their large beaks under the surface.

I limit each outing to a max of 2 kayaks (plus me, of course) to minimize any disturbance to the wildlife.

Location: Wye Park Boat Launch (west side of Bateman Island, Richland)

Time: 6:30am to 10:30am

Cost: $150 per person (plus tax)

Limited to 1-4 people (2 kayaks max)

Please call 505-699-2065or email [email protected] to schedule a tour.

I don't schedule dates because the weather (winds primarily) depicts our ability to go out. I can plan 1-week at a time so it's best if you can provide a few date options.

Bring your own kayak(s). If you don't have one, no worries. There are 2 rental companies that will deliver your kayak(s). Please contact:

1) Tom at Oatis Outdoor Rentals. He will drop off and pick up your kayak(s). Please contact him at 509-546-1392 or [email protected]

2) Anna at Kayak Bateman. She will meet us with everything you need. Please contact her at 509/492-2258 or
